Best Offset?

I am getting conflicting advice concerning the best offset for my winter tire/wheel setup. I have a set of OEM size all season tires, F 225-40-18 and R 255-35-18. I have been advised that 18 x 8.5 30 ET would be the best option for these tires. Others have said an ET of 40 for the front and run 18 x 9.5 ET 30 in the rear.
