If I buy winter tires only...can I not have the installer take the sensors in the OEM tire and use them in the new winter tire...then I reset the system via iDrive?

It's a lease so I'm not keen on buying wheels...

The TPMS sensors are not in the tire, they are attached to the wheel. So reusing your wheels for different tires is not a problem.

Good to know...is there a likely chance that installer will break them? Are they delicate?

Always a chance as humans make mistakes but I have had tires removed and mounted twice without a problem. Go to a reputable tire dealer. I chose the local Bridgestone-Firestone store thinking that they have experience with the RFTs and sensors. Both times they did a great job. Absolutely no damage to my wheels or the sensors.

You might also try tirerack's tire installer guide to find a good installer near you. Go to tirerack.com and click on the "installation" subtab, which takes you here:

And look up the tire installers in your area by zip code. Many will have ratings and reviews you can read.

I recently did exactly that, looked up the top rated installer, had Tru Line of Seattle install my tires, and they were great. I almost forgot the kind of service you get when a business actually cares about you as a customer.

My guess is that pretty much all tire installers know how to deal with TPM systems now. Tru Line certainly did.
