When I have my oil changed at a BMW Independent shop between the covered dealer oil services I don't WANT my oil change status changed. I want to keep it so it lights up at the "regular" time. You may not have any free service left so that would not an issue. Any quality independent shop specializing in German cars should be able to change your oil service status. What you experienced is why I don't take any of my cars to quick lube places.

X3's don't have iDrive. Try asking in the forum for your car model.
You took a BMW to Jiffy Lube? :tsk: Did they use a BMW LL-01 certified oil? What kind of oil filter did they use? Did they use a new gasket on the drain plug?
Either do it yourself or take the car to a qualified BMW independent. You need someone that specializes in BMWs.

My son worked for an "unnamed" quick lube place while he was in high school.
I wouldn't let them change the oil in my Briggs and Stratton lawn tractor.

Do you change the oil for your 7er at Jiffy Lube too?! :yikes:
There is zero reason to go to that place. An acquaintance worked there shortly during high school, and said he would never bring his own car there for an oil change. :thumbdwn:
On the i-drive controller, push it down 3 times in a row while saying "jibber jabber, jibber jabber, jibber jabber". This will unlock the secret service menu.
If you come to this screen on the display, just ignore it and move on to the next step.

Spin the controller clockwise, then push to the right, then a spin counter-clockwise, then push to the left 2 times. Then push down. Now you need to enter the magic search code B-M-W S-E-R-V-I-C-E C-E-N-T-E-R. Select the closest one in the results. Follow the instructions on the screen. If the computer starts talking to you and says something like this:Leave the driving to me. (http://mrt.sciamachy.net/jibbajabba/driving.wav), don't be alarmed.
Upon arriving at the secret destination tell them you made a mistake and need to rectify it immediately. This will probably cost money, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
.
Cliff notes:
Don't take your BMW(or any car) to a Jiffy Lube. Find the nearest BMW center and have them check it out while resetting the oil service status.

Isn't a BMW just another car? If it isn't I don't want it.

Personally I won't take any car I care about to quick lube places.
When my son worked for one it was common practice to throw away "excess" engine cover screws and in some cases entire covers. Besides that it's best to let the oil drain until it's all gone. Quick lube places don't have time to do that and put the plug back in when it slows to a trickle.

Isn't a BMW just another car?
Yes it is. Like many modern cars, it has special service requirements.
For the oil service you should:
Use a manufacturer approved oil of the correct type and grade
Use the correct tool to remove the oil filter
Use the correct oil filter
Replace the gasket on the drain plug
Tighten the oil filter and drain plug to correct torques.
This is the list for my Mazda. I wouldn't trust x-lube to do either one correctly.
