It is a cell phone, not a gun...

You shoot until the threat is eliminated, i.e., on the ground...

edit: he was hit 8 times, per news reports

HEADLINE: DA clears Shreveport officers in shooting

DATELINE: SHREVEPORT

BODY:
Caddo Parish District Attorney Paul Carmouche said Monday he will not pursue charges against two police officers who shot and killed a man they thought was pointing a gun at them.

What the officers thought was a gun turned out to be a cell phone.

Last month's deadly shooting of a motorist by Shreveport police was a justifiable homicide, Carmouche said.

Police said they observed 25-year-old Marquise Hudspeth running a red light in Shreveport on the evening of March 15 and began a chase. Videotape from the dashboard-mounted cameras in three patrol cars captured much of the shooting on tape.

The tapes, which were made public Monday, show Hudspeth holding a metal object in his hand.

The tapes also show 15 shots being fired. Eight shots hit Hudspeth - all of them in his back. The tapes show him falling to the ground, at which point officers stopped shooting.

Damn, that is nuts. I don't know why the guy would point his cell phone like it was a gun at the cops twice (in 6 seconds). With all of the adrenaline running through those cops, they didn't have time to react. What if it was a gun? I think the video shows that this guy was a "threat" to the officers based on the way he pointed like he had a gun and was going to "shoot". I think what they did was definitely justified.

It is called" suicide by cop"....The individual provokes the cop into shooting him/her ...

I think he was looking for "suicide by cop". When you make the 'pointing gun' motion and you have something in your hand, the cop has to make the call.

15 shots from 5 feet away and they only land 8?

There is no sport within man anymore. If suicide was indeed the trigger, then why not enjoy it. It was his last will and testament. He never imagined how much good would come from his death if he used a genuine gun, weilded it with authority, and finally perhaps even inflicted a casualty or two.

Akin to the challenge of blasting a prarie dog at 10 meters.
