Rack & Pinion leak

Is it better to buy the seal kit to repair your R&P or should I just spring for a whole new part? I'm not sure what to do. Would this be a difficult job to do myself or is it a doable repair?

I would buy a rebuilt rack, which is what I did 3(?) years ago for my '87 E30. Replacing it is something you can do yourself if you're at all handy with tools. There's a detailed set of instructions out there on one of the forums (may be this one). Do a search for "steering rack" and see what shows up.
