Hi there, im new to the whole car thing, etc..

I have a 1995 530i. The car has the option to drive in automatic or in manual. I think its called dual transmissions. Without the clutch ofcourse. Now i have driven standard before with the basic H style stick. But with the BMW, its just up and down. So my question is, if anyone can help me understand how to drive when its on manual.

Thanks in advance

Basic consensus is only use the manual mode to lock out lower gears in the snow.

it is a normal automatic with M = * snowflake on the later cars.

It is used ONLY when you are in extremely low traction situations, ie snow ice slush, and only for starting off and STAYIN in a higher gear.

IE starting off and driving in 3rd.
NOT FOR SHIFTING THE CAR AS IF IT WERE A MANUAL.
you do that and you'll be revelling in the joy of changing an expensive 200+ lb automatic transmission.

If you find you need to shift, like you have gone from slushy streets to clear dry streets, switch back out of M into E then into D.
