I recently bought an '88 528 E... although it's kinda confusing to figure stuff out on it. I just got my radio code from the delership but no sound... i am thinking there was supposed to be an amp in the trunk? Cuz it dosent have one there.... more trouble shooting in store i guess
If you have the tweeters in the doors then yes, there is an amp under the rear shelf, left side inside the trunk. Check your fuses (fuse 12) and if it still doesn't work it might be dead. I'm no longer using my amp which was working at the time that I replaced the factory radio with a Blaupunkt CD unit with Bluetooth and USB so let me know if you want to buy it. The factory radio leaves a lot to be desired specially in lower frequencies (bass). I added a subwoofer and amp under the rear seat and it sounds sooo muvch better now (my wife actually likes this setup better than the X3 factory radio!) Anothe rtrick is to replace the factory speaker "guts" with 5-1/4" component speakers in the back and 4" in the front (I have Infinity components inth eback but still using the factory speaker and tweeter up front).
Good Luck!
