View Full Version : Z4M Battery has to come from Germany?!?

Last Wednesday my 2006 Z4M roadster was completely dead when I tried to go home from work. Not even a click from the starter. So I called BMW Assist, got a jump start from them, and drove it straight to the dealer to get it checked out, since the car is still under warranty.

The service advisor called me the next day and told me I needed a new battery. This didn't really surprise me, since whenever I left the car parked for more than a couple of days I needed to jump start it. The car sat on the dealer's lot for about a year and a half before I bought it, and I'm sure they let the battery get pretty dead quite often while they had it.

They said they didn't have the right battery in stock, and had to order one. When I called back the next day, they said that the new one hadn't arrived. Then on Monday, they called me and said that the replacement battery was a special model that had to be shipped in from Germany! I asked how BMW couldn't keep a single replacement battery in the US, for a car that was built here! The service advisor was very apologetic, but couldn't explain.

Does this make any sense at all? I would be worried that something fishy was going on, like damage to my car that they needed time to fix and so wanted to stall me, but I was at the dealer Saturday to pick up a loaner, and saw my car in the service area without any damage.

Sounds normal. A lot of parts aren't stocked here or go out of stock.

They get the batterys locally from Exide. Have them look at parts bulletin 61 02 07.
