This may not be the best way, but if done correctly it is an inexpensive alternative to powder coat.

Do this with the tires off. When you remount the tires, take them to a custom rim shop. they usually have equipment that will not mar the new paint.

The directions on duplicolor's site are good. I'd use Wurth silver wheel paint if you are going for the factory silver. Getting a paint shop to paint them will usually get you a harder finish (catalyzed paint).
Powder coating is the best.

hey guys i was wondering what is thee best way to paint rims???

My order for 4 Cans of Duplicolor high performance wheel paint came in this afternoon. If I get home on time I will paint them and post some picks tomorrow. I am redoing a set of BBS rims that came with my touring.

They were in very bad shape. The right front was the worst I have seen. It had a rash that went about one third ow the way around the rim. Not only did it gouge in but pushed metal up.

I filed down the scraped till it was flush with the surface of the rest of the lip and filled the remaining pits with Aluminum Epoxy Putty. Then I filed the epoxy smooth and sanded it. I think that once the rim is painted it will look good as new.

The right rear was not as bad as the front. The two from the left side are in decent shape but will be painted all the same..

I just completed the painting of the worst wheel. Sorry to say I did not take before during and after pics. But this is the finished product. The photo does not do it justice. They are much glossier than it looks in the Pic. I did not bother to tape up the valve stem, they will have new stems when the tires are mounted. :)
