try road force and balance all of your tires.

what's road force?

road force is a way to balance the tires, instead of just spinning the tires and then adding weights to them they actually apply force to the tire as it would be on the road, hence road force, it is a way way better way to balance the tires

but it does sound like you have a balance issue with one or both of the front tires.

Balance or thrust arms.

+1 Bimmer!

With the speed range you indicated, it will most likely be the thrust arms. It almost feels like the front end is going to come apart the worse it gets. Check here. http://www.bmwe34.net/Wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Thrust+arms

You can replace the thrust arms your self but keep your fingers crossed that it is a wheel balance issue and you won't have to get down and dirty..

thank you for your input, i will definetly look into replacing the rocker arms because that seems to be the problem.......i was also interested in making some minor upgrades to the 525i but don't have a lot of money. any suggestions??

That would depend on what type of upgrades you wanted to make. Handling, speed or cosmetic?

Would the answers to Winston also apply to speeds between 60 and 70? If I brake hard around 65, the car feels that it is going to shake apart. My car is a 1993 525 with 175k on the clock.

The thrust arm shake is usually from 50-65 (give or take). The shake under braking would tend to confirm it.

check your tire pressure, then balancing, road force balance ( if needed ) it could be a lot of other things too, but do the easy and cheap stuff first
