Hello.

I'm considering getting an '05 545i w/ sport package.
From those of you that drive em in the winter, how do they handle in the snow?

I've had 330i w/ sport package, 5-speed for 8 years now and once winter tires are on, i have absolutely no issues in the winter. But I realize that 545 has substantially more power than my current 330.

Thanks for your input.

I have had no issues with mine. I run Dunlop run flat M3 snows on 17 inch wheels. Pulled me through some pretty bad weather/snow. The power isn't really a big deal because the DTC/DTS limits the delivery if you lose traction.

And about 400 lbs more weight than the 330i

Thats why you have an accelerator pedal. To increase and decrease power where appropriate.

In gentle driving - revs at under 2K, and/ or a low speed cruising (under 55 mph) - an engine is typically delivering 25-50 horsepower regardless of the peak horsepower that it can produce.

Easy going on that accelerator pedal in inclement weather and you'll be A-OK, as will be others on the roads around you.

No issues at all - handles surpisingly well. I have Pirelli performance winter tires - dont know exactly which ones as they are in storage now. I would think the 545 handles better than a 330 with snows on.

For Winter, do the 545, SP Pkg dirvers go with 17" or 18" tires. I also hear it is not a good idea to use the staggered setup in winter. Any recommendations.

I go with 17's, the tires and wheels are cheaper. You don't want a staggered set up for winter tires. The rear tires benefit from being narrower and digging in to get traction vs sitting on top of the snow. Wider is not better in snow tires
