I have a m3 spoiler with 3rd brake light.

Where do the 4 screws go throw the trunk. They look to line up with the trunk gap? or are right at the edge? Any photos? any help.

Thanks

I *strongly* suggest that you take your car to a body shop and have a professional do it.

Ya right?? it's a 10 year old car not worth paying 100's $$$ to a body shop to drill 4 holes.
I think my nail gun will do the job.

I just need to know where the screws go. I'm thinking its not for my car . it off a 99 m3 mines a 97. the looks OK from the top just the mounting screws look to wide unless I'm missing something. Just a simple photo of some ones underside and the top placement.

thanks

A nail gun?

A screwed up trunk and/or spoiler will look make you and your car look bad whether it is a 10 year old car, or a 2 year old car. Doesn't matter if it is 10 years old, why don't you be happy with what you have and treat your car with some respect.

Mr e36m34life,
Not every one wants to drive a stock looking car some people like to do modifications to there car its part of the fun of owning a car. You make it sound like this is some $10000 car or one of them original classic cars. Or I'm just to stupid to drill 4 holes . Its just a BMW just a step above VW.
Its a 1997 318is with 130k miles what value does it have? almost none. I may even add a ///M3 logo to the rear also !!!!

For the others who may want to help with a real answer not bash me for modifing my car. The rear spoiler looks the be 1/2inch too wide . Is there a difference from 2 door car to 4 doors rear trunk (bonnet) width?

Im still in the looking at it on and with it off. But I still want to know how it scerws on.

What we are trying to tell you is it is probably going to look horrid if you do it yourself.. So... why don't you just buy an old vw and duct tape some cardboard some spoilers on it. Its just a step up right!

And there is no difference in the rear bonnet width. See I can bash and help at the same time:D.

Really easy job. I put my spoiler from the cope. Little bit of difference, but you can make it work. The only thing is hard to do is measurements.
It is really not explainable, I just put mine from the head, what I think will work.

get paper, draw round base off spoiler were it attaches, mark the holes on the paper base, measure length needed, place paper bases on boot lid and drill holes required, remember and file drilled holes, voila, one spoiler fitted:)

Thanks guys ,

But what I see is the screw holes on the spoiler are wider then the edge on my boot lid. I'm guessing it was misrepresented in the ad as fitting .
I thinking of selling it and going with the smaller glue on lip type.

Do yourself, your car, and the BMW community a favor, and sell the car along with the spoiler. Then go buy a Honda, I heard that spoilers are really easy to install on those cars.

I installed a m3 spoiler on my 3.18is because I got it for 50bux. It came with set screws which you put in the spoiler then position it with a friend and put it down to make dimples to drill. Make sure you get it as close to the edge as you can. Drill straight down with a good bit. If you went into the inner metal part slightly as I did, get a metal file bit for the drill and hollow it out until you can place the bolt in bottom up and it sits flush. The rest is just bolting up and wiring it into the brake lights, you may have to drill a separate hole for the wires.
Who gives a **** if it goes on a M3? I like the style lines and features of the M3; IE: spoiler and mirrors, but like my rounded bumper instead of the boxed look, its all a matter of owner preference. As for badges, my car's ass will never get an M tramp stamp. If the owner prefers to put one on then look past it and see what they busted their knuckles on in order to think is M3 worthy. In reality if you saw a BMW at a gas station that looked nice and obviously not an M3 with the badge; I hope every one would have a sense of pride to walk up and say "nice car, what all have you done to it?" and make a new local bimmer acquaintance.

im aware my cars slow as ****, and i know its not an m3, and never will be. even if i got the engine and kit and suspension and brakes and whatever the heck else, it will never be an m3.
im just dreaming

my ///M badge tells the moron community, that its not a stock car. im not ripping off an m3. i just want to seperate myself form the other 318is drivers in the area. cos most of them are FULLY SICK BRO I HAVE A BEAAAAMMMERRRR AND ITS HOT PINK WITH 20" CHROMIES!.

i dont wanna be like them.

**please note - before you all burn me, im aware its not a 'beamer' and it is a 'bimmer', i was purely mocking the ignorant bimmer drivers of my area.**

in this case, is my ///M (not m3) badge aceptable?

The problem I'm having is the screws dont line up with the trunk (boot lid) and fall in between the lid and the fender right with the gap?
I think I'm going to sell it and get the small lip type you just stick on.

And I'm going to put on a M3 badge or do they make a M5 badge is that better?
I think any way unless you own or have owned a BMW 99% or people would not know what M3 was or even if it had S10 badging not think any thing of it.

rcrobbin
10-22-2008, 03:49 AM
Yea, the screws don't line up 100% and do go into the boot lid. You have to either grow a pair and do it like I did, or just go the stick on spoiler easy route. After it was said and done, it took me about 30min. to mount and make it look good. Once you get over the initial fear of drilling then it all gets better, I would definitely do it again.

Yes I under stand but its wider then the boot lid :dunno: lined up with the rear edge of the lid the screws dont touch the lid. so there is nothing to drill .
I set it down and the screws fall in to the gap on the side. I will take a photo when and if the sun comes up .

Although we are not bashing 4 cylinder E36's in anyway whatsoever, the facts speak for themselves. Take a look at this thread and you will notice that the majority of the people supporting the OP with installing his spoiler by using a nail gun (:tsk:) AND the majority of people who think putting an M3 badge on anything other then an M3 is ok, are all drivers of................you guessed it, 4 cylinder E36's! Don't believe me? I do NOT have anything against 4 banger bimmers, that is when you are normal. The sad fact is that usually one owns a 4 banger bimmer because they couldn't afford a six cylinder, because they are too young, and when you are young, you do stupid things like put M3 or even M5 badges on your 318's and 316's, as well as install spoilers using nail guns.

It's sad but true, and I feel sorry for the normal owners of 4 banger bimmers. :(

For sure.
Dom (318) and Cone (316) were a couple of my favourite people here. Pity we don't see them anymore.

For one thing I could go pay cash for a 2008 m3 BMW If I wanted and get a 6 cly 8 cly 10 12 what ever cyl they may have. I probably make more money then you in 1 day then you make all week or all month. I guessing your 17 years old and working at taco bell by you stupid posts.

Also I'm not young or that old.

If I want to put a m3 badge on my 318 I will and I dont give a sh*t what you think or if I must be abnormal or must be retarded to do that.

I think your the one with the problem here you assume someone must be poor because they cant a afford a real BMW with the 6 cly or they must be a some young punk because they want to modify a BMW . I going to do what I want to do with my car .

If you must know I building this car for my 17yr old daughter

by the sounds of it..if i had to go off of posts to guess YOUR age, id have to say you're around 17 as well. dont try to let people get under your skin. the outcome of your posts (and others, not bashing on just you) make you look like a 17 year old. just my .02 cents. doesnt really make you look all that intelligent.

"M3 badge on a 318 makes real m3's look bad" There is some really tuned up 4 bangers out there that will smoke a real M3.... When I'm down with this car it will make a m3 look bad simply because it looks better then a stock m3

Hey bro, Settle down. I think your really getting out of control, And i am really confused about why you are getting so worked up about some one over the internet. Just turn off your computer if you don't like what they are saying.

Listen.

Honestly everyone here is a mouse click away, Dont like what they say. Just dont click the post ever again.

Your making a bad rep for your self saying "Go F**K Your Self...." Your acting like a teenager.

If you really have a 17year old daughter you need to act your age, and not your shoe size.
Be a grown up. And just relax.

Also This is your car do what you want. Honestly. its your car. If you want 6 Hood Scoops DO IT. Its your life Live it man! Don't be a sheep and follow the herder. Be the herder!
I can't stress this enough

You have a fantastic day buddy. I hope your car turns out just like you wanted. <-- Not sarcasim I really do hope it turns out to be your dream car.

Bye for now.

Dude, your so full of it! You have enough cash to pay for a 2008 M3? If you had even half that amount, you wouldn't be on here asking how to install an M3 spoiler on a 318 buddy, none the less install it with a damn nail gun! To have that amount of money, you have to have a brain and know how to use it, you obviously don't, because something as little as this would not cause a normal yet alone rich person to freak out like that.

Not to mention that you can't even read, I specifically put TWICE that I have nothing against 4 banger bimmers, yet you STILL think I am down talking them. I do not automatically assume your poor if you own a 4 cylinder E36, I don't even know where you got that from.

You beat me to a virtually identical post.

But don't bother asking for pics of his 17yo daughter. He'll only find some anonymous model he found on the web; most likely ludicrously gorgeous and underage. On second thoughts...;)

Brian / MotelCambodia:
My first four cars were second hand Japanese jobs which I held on average for seven years each. A 320i IS all I could afford, much as I would have loved a 328. But I've never heard a single remark about being ONLY a 320i. I've only had good help here.

No-one gives a rats ass if you're poor, as long as you're not trying to pretend you're something you're not. That's why M3 badges on 318's just look stupid. I saw one in a carpark a few weeks back, then a real M3 came and parked next to it. As soon as it started it sounded dumbass by comparison.

Likewise, no-one cares if you're rich either, as long as you're not a tosspot about it. So mister "I make more money in a day than you do in a month", for all your flouting of wealth, hotels, planes, 12cyl M3's, etc; you really do look like a complete wanker when you want to nail gun a spoiler onto your car, er, I mean your daughter's. I'm sure she'd love driving it, spoiler flapping around in the breeze and all.

yeah. it's ok to drill holes into thin layer of metal driving around in different climate conditions...

first of all... the spoiler does not kick in until the speeds are 230+ km/h
and for the second part.... you do need to buy a Honda

haha. creative. by the way, is it an autotragic or a manual?

MotelCambodia
10-26-2008, 12:08 PM
/\ Its auto . And with the manual control button you can select any gear and start out in 3 or 2 or 1 . That will help in the snow or ice we get here.
Its nice just push and go any one car drive it easy. And it still get good MPG the full lock up converter helps too.

yeah, my 88 e30 had that "manual mode" as well. your daughter is going to be driving it so i guess an auto is acceptable.

Ya right?? it's a 10 year old car not worth paying 100's $$$ to a body shop to drill 4 holes.
I think my nail gun will do the job.

I just need to know where the screws go. I'm thinking its not for my car . it off a 99 m3 mines a 97. the looks OK from the top just the mounting screws look to wide unless I'm missing something. Just a simple photo of some ones underside and the top placement.

thanks
Brian

I feel that mine is worth a lot more than you feel.
