My 95' 530i's Diagnosed Problems

From an Indy repair shop:

1). Brake Fluid only measured at 2%.

2). Both rear differentials leaking.

3). Front and rear brake sensor wiring cut. (I had Tuffy do my brakes cuz I needed a quick fix)

4). Aftermarket air filter could use cleaning.

5). Oil line from filter housing to oil pan seeping fluid.

6). Vehicle looks to have power steering leak. Would need to degrease to isolate.

7). Can see tank to cooler and tank to pump hoses porous.

8). Right Catalytic Converter is broken up inside.

9). Left front sidemarker light inop.

10). Front Strut cartridges and upper mounts worn out. (!!!)

How well do you know this mechanic? I think he is pulling your crank on how much work the car needs. Get a second opinion. and then do as mutch of the actual work as you can yourself. You will save loads of mulldainies.

1) 2% of what?
2) both differentals?
3) sensor wires are an easy DIY
4) Get a kit to clean it
6) common. You might need to replace a few of the hoses.
7) the plastic can fail
8) do you have emissions testing in your area?
9) probably the bulb or the holder. Not that hard to change.
10) I'd believe in the worn cartridge. Not so sure on the bearings.
