Hi,
I have an 05 Z4 with about 22k miles.
The dealership is asking for $2699 for an extra 4 years and 60 thousand miles.
I am trying to make a decision if its worth making this additional investment.
I drive about 8k miles a year as a weekend car.
Does anyone have any suggestions/comments/opinions about this purchase?
Thanks.

Not worth it... If you have 2.5k for a warranty just put it in the bank (maybe a 1 Year CD or similar). If some things comes up you have the cash. If nothing comes up...hey you have the cash.
You really would need some major crap to gto wrong to spend that kind of money.

Agree 100% that you're better off with the money in the bank. In my experience shopping for extended warranties, none of them covered the convertible top mechanism or the electric steering assist, which are two of the things that worry me most mechanically and among the most expensive to fix at the dealer. Not sure about BMW's own extended warranty though.

Thanks for the replies. My only concern is the convertible top. I saw some complaints on this forum about how expensive it is to repair the convertible top.
Did anyone have any issues with their tops in the last few years? If so, what are your experiences?

I think the more you drive the more sense it makes just like with the extended maintenance plan. For only 32K more miles of coverage (4 years X 8k miles), you can probably roll the dice sucessfully and not be out more than that $2,700 during those 32K miles outside of warranty.

Another thing to consider is that the extended warranty from BMW is transferrable in a private party sale...making the vehicle similar to a dealer CPO vehicle. This should effectively reduce the cost of the extended warranty by raising the resale price to nearly the same level as the dealer CPO price...plus obviously making the resale easier. The difference between dealer retail and trade-in on a 2003 Z4 is about $3,000 before considering extended warranty status. This would make the true cost of an extended warranty pretty low even if there were no major repairs under it.
