a fellow e30 member from a different forum told me this.

"There is an accordian looking flex coupling on one of the down pipes in the engine bay just below the manifold connections.

Sounds like it may have cracked."

this sounds like the answer to my problem..my question to you guys is, what is it actually called..and how much/difficult is it to replace?

I was told it's very difficult to replace/weld. How much do headers cost since I believe that'll fix the problem.

if you had a bent valve, you'd notice it while driving the whole time..yah? and it'll stay consistent when driving..as in, once the car is warmed up, it will still be there?

i bring this up because i parked my car by my friends at school..popped the hood (they were all amazed ) and revved it a little bit so they could hear the noise i was describing. some kid in his honda (i WILL get pictures.) comes over and says its a bent valve. so thats why i brought this up. a bent valve NEVEr crossed my mind because i thought id notice if i did or not

OFF TOPIC

this honda kid..its brown, he off roads it (wants to put a lift kit), 2 15's in it, CAI, ect. anyways, this kid always talked about how his honda is turbo'd, a manual, and how its V-Tech is SOO sick when it kicks in. i go over to his car ask him to pop the hood. i ask where the SuPeR sIcKk TuRbO iZ @. he said he took it off b/c it was putting down too much hp and tq. AND his honda hb ('91?) is an automatic 4spd. this kid is a joke. oh btw, i asked more about his honda and the V-Tech powa..well, it doesnt have it either. haha wow. this kid amazes me.

yeah the crack for mine is in a different place, the flex pipe. i was hoping that even though it cracked, that it would make it more aggressive. but nope, it sounds like sh*t after its cooled down.
