I was told by the dealer the reason they didn't keep them in stock was they had to have one for each color leather seat. Is this BS? If if is I'm calling them out on it. My car has been in the shop 7 days now they're saying it's taking 5 hours to program the computer (probably BS also). I've written BMWNA already. BBB is next...

I don't know where that mat goes exactly. My common sense tells me it'd go in tje underseat area. Makes me wonder why has to match the leather color?? However 5 hours sounds reasonable if they have to strip all the passenger side area, but I think is just the seat that comes out.

The rep told me that mat is glued to the surface of the seatcover at the factory. I tend to believe that guy.

The 5 hours was supposedly to reprogram the computer.

WHA!?! 5 hours to re-program the computer? wow, that seems a little too much.

I have had 2 passenger seat mats replaced and they had to order the mats both times. Yes, the mat is integrated into the leather seat cushion.

My appointment is this Saturday to replace the passenger mat on my 04 X3. The dealer assures me this is all covered by the recall, though the warantee on my X3 just expired.

They did have to order the mat. Took about a week. I've had the car into this deal 2 or 3 times with no luck on a loaner. For this trip, they assured me they would have a loaner available as the work will take close to 7 hours total.

I'll report back if any of this does not pan out. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Getting mine fixed next week. Dealer is replacing passenger mat and driver's side mat since it is torn and will be covered under the recall and warranty.

I have to sit and wait at the dealer because I cant get a loaner since I am not of the proper age to have one for the day due to insurance purposes, which is a bunch of BS. Valet can't help me out because I have to live within 10 miles of the dealer...I live within 15. Kind of ticked....

i am bringing mine in tomorrow...althought i have not recieved the offical 'recall' notification on my car in particular....i called BMWNA and i told them about the car's symptoms and the rep told me that is almost 95% sure that my car is one of the effected ones......so she contacted my dealer and will have it taken care of (kudos to BMWNA on this)

the dealer will have a loaner for me

I still can't get an answer concerning mine. On the repair history it does state:

MAT - SEAT OCCUPANCY RECOGNITION 1 MALFUNCTION

Defect Code 6577081500

The dealer has no idea what this means.

I didn't receive the letter but the red air bag light lit up on the dash and the amber air bag off light on the overhead console came on when a someone was sitting in the passenger seat. According to BMWNA you should bring the vehicle in immediately if you have these symptoms which I did.

mine was in yesterday.....they checked everything....no fault codes but they did do a reprogram of the SRS system and checked with BMWNA...they told the dealer to hold off on replacing it because they only have certain amt of these retro kits and they want to give it to the cars that's showing symptoms first and then later the others.......

my car's vin is not showing up as 'recall' but it will def be one of them later

Mine does not have the symptoms, however, last week when I took the X3 in for a wood grain handle replacement (that they chipped last time) the SA told me he ordered the parts for the recall. They call me monday for an appointment.

On a side note, Í'm reluctant on performing this recall if they have to rip off all my leather on the passenger seat... Can I just opt-out?

Now this really pisses me off because the x3 was in the dealer about 6 weeks and I had them look up the recall...NADA.

Now I get the letter.
