I might plan to sell my car this upcomin summer or this yr and I was wondering if you guys have any opinions on the cooper S. I need to go to the dealership tomorrow to ask all my questions, but as a car fanatic I"d appreciate everyone's opinions also :) Please inform me of all good and bad of this car. :)

There's not really a whole lot bad about this car overall but I'll list a few things:

1) Not alot of space, not even in the trunk
2) If you opt for the 17" wheels the weight is excessive (almost 50lbs/corner)
3) Hard to do heel-toe in such a small space :P

All I can think of for now.. I'll add to the list as I think of stuff. However, I'm quite sure all the stuff I'll end up listing (including the above) is really quite trivial, the car is simply awesome in my opinion. I really love mine!

I had a 1999 323i for one year before an 18-wheeler totaled it for me.:bawling: I loved the car, but I had a lot of headaches because it was a CPO (used) car and it took many trips to the dealer to get it right. I didn't want to repeat this process, so I thought I'd buy a new one.

Two days ago I went to the dealership and went over some numbers, and the 325i, even though it's a stretch for me right now financially, was the one I could afford. The 330 was out of the question, but that's what I really wanted.

Yesterday I drove a Cooper S at my dealer...after 10 minutes I knew I had to have this car or I would regret it for a very long time. My deposit will be taken today by my dealer and my British Racing Green Cooper S will be here in August!! And it's under $25k, almost loaded with options. By all means, go and drive one and the negative feelings about the lack of rear seating space and trunk room will disappear. You'll find a way to get around that.:D

You will NOT be disappointed

1) yes, but kindda expect that from a MINI, with the seats down the "trunk" is quite usable...

2) very true, we're still debating if we should get the 16's and get some aftermarket 17's or 18's instead... but it's only $30 cheaper coz we want everything else in the SP... (your take on this?)

3) I found it quite easy to heel-toe actually, the 2 pedals are like next to each other...

I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of the 330 and getting a CooperS. I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it.

I have too with my 325i I don't know though... I'd much rather add it to the 2 Bimmers

Not a bad idea. Trade in the 330 and get a Cooper and an E30 M3. :eeps:

 Somehow I think you're getting almost the exact same car I have! I got BRG/B with combos 1,2 + Black Panther Profile Leather. I love the car.. but the way it sits on the road isn't conducive to fast highway driving (unless you want paint chips!). They don't seem to bother me much anymore, actually... none of the little things (like minor exterior damage) seems to bother me anymore. I know I can fix it all for under $200 if I ever wanted to, so I just leave it be. Give it a good wash and wax every few weeks and everything is fine. I love my Cooper S!

Hey PCMike-

Yes, I get that feeling too, and it's funny- I was reading one of the Mini brochures and came across a page where it was talking about dings and other minor damage, and how you should accept them rather than be angry about them, because they're like battle scars!;)

Excellent choice of exterior and interior colors by the way...

Well after test driving a couple of Cooper S' and trying to find one in the LA area for MSRP (still impossible) I'v gone ahead and put down a deposit for one from the Nashville, TN. area. That means I'm going to sell my 2001 BMW 330CI with 5spd, sport, premium, cold package, etc. I'm hoping to use the cash difference to pay off what I stil owe on the BMW and end up with Mini.
Since most of my driving is around town, I do have some concerns about the lack of low-end torque of the Mini. Any of you find that a problem in normal city driving? Also, if you know of any good sites to post my 330CI for sale, please let me know. I guess now I'll be checking out this forum rather than the E46 group. Motor On...

well here's my $0.02, i drove a friends Cooper S and i must say that thing handles unbelievably...i mean its glued to the road.....that was my biggest surprise, everything else was cool too, i like the design, the interior was fun, its just a fun spare car...thats the word, spare

what i was also surprised by was the lack of torque, i think it can be fast but it i would have thought a s/c could add more oomph than that

so if you don't need the room or the power, this is the car for you..!

Greetings from Knoxville, TN (2.5-3hrs from Nashville). I also own a 01 330Ci and I've considered selling it for a MCS, but I just can't bring myself to it. The MCS is fun car, but it's just so small and that's the #1 reason why I got out of my 99 Z3 2.3.

I still haven't decided whether to go ahead or not. I've actually listed my 330CI on a West Coast online/print rag called Recycler. I'll see what knd of offers I get and then whether to see and move to an MCS. My wife drives a Miata so we really do have the small 4 corner eater already. I'm not really sure the value of having two such cars. We'll see...

I'm 6'4" and my wife sells mini's...

I took the S out a few times and that thing is awesome... it's 0-60 time is the same as my old Honda Prelude - and it blows away almost any car in the twisties... it's really really a great car...

as for interior room... i fit just fine... I've been in the backseat with a full car... .

yes the trunk is a bit small.... but what do you reall need to put in it?

I highly recommend this car... great fun

[QUOTE=drd_330i]I'm 6'4" and my wife sells mini's...

I'm looking around the US for MINI dealers who have allocations and/or Cooper "S" that are due in shortly and who are willing to selling at MSRP. Since my brother lives in Yardley, and your in Oxford (I assume that means Oxford Valley?) I might kill 2 birds with one stone - pickup an MCS and visit my brother. If she's interested she can contact me directly at plugot@pacbell.net.

Are the rear seats split-fold-down?

Curious if I were to get one of these for my wife, if she could put the baby seat on one side in the back, and fold down the other side to accommodate putting her stroller in the "trunk."

Thoughts?

Oxford PA is south west of Philly about 50 minutes or so. My wife works in West Chester... i sent her an e-mail with your post from above... hopefully she's send you an e-mail. The dealership she works for is selling for MSRP.

Yes... that will work. split is 50/50 and it has the latch system so child seats can be securly put in
