My '04 645 has a noise best described as a "propeller" sound when I start the car, shift into gear and feather the gas. It also happens when I come to a complete stop, or if I lightly step on the gas in gear or in Park.
It could sound like a winding or shifting noise.
Anyone have a clue, or hear this before?
Sadly, I am out of warranty.

I dont think it is an exhaust leak the way it occurs, I had a mechanic look at it and he suggested I take the car to a BMW dealer as he did not want to start tearing into it.

I just took my 04 in for a noise that happens under same conditions- can't say mine sounds like a propeller, but rather something like a dieselling vibration sound, which at first I thought was a loose cover in the engine compartment. Technician said it is normal for this engine, which I don't buy as its too prominent and so BMW wouldn't have left it that way. I'm curious. It does go away once past the featheirng point...

If you are talking about the engine having a sound like it is not steady (like humming in cycles) in the start up - my authorized BMW dealer basically said that it happens in all the V8 engines (750, 650) there is a part that they opted not to use for this engine - it goes away shortly after warm up - but it isnt a big deal.
