How do I make my stock intake louder and perform better without making it look aftermarket. I already took out the silencer, but it didn't do much. Any other suggestions? Thx in advanced!!!

I think he might be asking if there's any way to modify the internals of the airbox so that he can improve performance. However, I could be wrong....

Yea exactly, like my friends did this to his ranger where he had his full stock intake but sounds like a beast. I asked him what he did and he said he took out all silencers and resistence he could find and grinded out all the grooves in the box. I'm just wondering if that is what I might have to do, unless anyone else wants to give me there insight as what to do.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I don't think smoothing the grooves will help much, under throttle the air is pretty much sucked up. I took out the little box clip, don't know its purpose...You can take the snorkel out of the box and front, this will decrease hp slightly but will have a monster sucking sound. Best way is CAI but since you want it stock...it's gonna sound like stock...which is mostly no sound.

i think that if u swtich to a k&n air panel filter, it will allow more air circulation=better sound...
Searched Fogged Air box z3 1.9....Theres a couple sites that show how they gutted the intake on a 1.9, you might be able to do the same thing.

Yea I have a k&n air filter. But still no deep sound.

Dude, just get a cold-air intake. They're not that expensive and the power/sound increase is baaaaaad ass.

Does adding the CAI affect fuel economy in a neg or pos way? I guess over all the general rule is that it depends on how you drive the car. what was the first thing you noticed after adding a CAI(other then sound)? I am thinking of buying one, I have stock airbox with K&N drop in, no performance increase noticed, maybe some MPG on a small level. but it was part of a overall tune up. did you notice a difference with the intake, I guess my question is it worth it? will I notice a difference in power?

No it started out as a stock intake then other guys said the magic word "cai" and then this thread went to hell.
He wants to fog his stock air box basically.

Differences...
Sound: Huge difference. Vast improvement. Sounds all mean and nasty.
Power: Small difference. Maybe a little more top-end power, but nothing huge. I'd guess about 5-7hp.
Throttle response: Noticeable improvement across the power band, especially in the midrange. Did I mention it sounds bad ass too?
Gas mileage: Difference is negligible. If you drive exactly the same (which you won't at first, due to the bad ass sound), you might gain 1/2mpg.

Ok, well I pretty much got nowhere.
Moral of the story: fogging your airbox is a waste of time/effort. Spend a few bucks on a CAI, and then you can make a new thread on here thanking us.

Okay your reading comprehension sucks I told you twice what you want to do and what to search.
So let me put this way:
Cut up your air box (your still going to need a cone filter, its going to be cheaper to do this but more time consuming) and make the car noise go VERRRRRRRRRRRRRUMMMMMM
or buy a intake (little more money and easier to do) and make the car noise go VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!

Well no, I did search up the fogging site, but it was 2 confusing. So I might read up a little more or I may just buy a CAI. THX anyway guys.
