I was out cleaning up my car, 98 328is, and when I started it I heard a funny sound coming from the engine. It was a cross between a whistle and whining sound. Not too loud but enough that I can hear it coming from the vacinity of just below the throttle body and near the oil dipstick. I pulled the oil dipstick and the engine surged and idle a little higher and you can hear a rather quiet suction sound? I searched hear and know that is a sign of a vacuum leak but when I put the dipstick back in the engine revs down and everything runs fine and there is no CEL or stalling issues or rough idle. Hopefully it is just a bad hose but any other things to look for and the more detail in location and part name the better. new to BMW's and a novice in repairing them. Willing to try though! Thanks.

Also does anyone know what fuse the CEL is grouped with. the reason I ask is that on my honda I can pull fuse #13 (clock fuse) and it will shut off my CEL. the CEL will still illuminate when car is cranked but when it is running and trying to do an OBDII scan it will not show up it will only show a "?" with no codes. Curious to see if this is an issue with my BMW and the guy I bought it from pulled a fast one and removed the fuse to avoid this code from showing??? I have several missing fuses but when reading about them most are the heated seats and headlight washer fuses none of which i have.
