Hey guys, I'm still new to this website even though I joined a while ago. I haven't been on it a long time.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out on an exhaust for my car.

I'll be getting a CAI too fyi

I want it to be pretty loud, but have more power too.

Ebay catback exhaust with ebay header? Any thoughts on that?

Remember, I'm on a budget.

Thanks in advance!

save up for a Borla exhaust, you will love it and your neighbors will hate it :)

any ebay performance parts are a total waste of your time and money. do not bother blowing you money on that crap. combine what you would spend on both and get a decent intake from Bavauto.com. then save your money and then buy a nice exhaust

or AA works too:) at parking lot speeds it even annoys me a bit.

but if you really are budget minded and want it now, you can take a look at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E36-325I-328I-GT55-STAINLESS-CATBACK-EXHAUST-SYSTEM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q 3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286 Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem290274942347QQitemZ290274942 347QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
it's what i call the "ebay special." it works. it's not gonna crap out on you. but you also get what you pay for. you'll hear a different sound, though, that's for sure. it won't be terribly loud, nor will you get hp gains out of it. but even then, most catbacks will get you negligible gains anyway. but as DNRC said, save up for what you really want. you won't regret it!

The only problems with ebay headers are fitment. If I ever get about buying ebay headers, I'll re-weld all the welds. The ebay cat-backs work fine. FYI search e36 section for stuff like this and cai.

I absolutely DO love my Borla, but I don't think my neighbors "hate" it particularly. There's no doubt that I have a new exhaust; the pure growl at idle is a dead giveaway. But I don't race throught the neighborhood, so I don't rattle windows.

Come to think of it, the guy that lives to my right IS a real asshole; maybe tomorrow morning when I leave for work at 6:30 am (and his retired ass is still in bed), I'll let her breathe a little more.

Just once, you understand.

But the combination of my Borla and my CAI do make a great deal of difference.

I don't give it a lot of gas either but it just growls sooo loud even at idle that it wakes up my neighbor in the mornings (at least that is what my parents told me after speaking with him one day)

Thanks a lot guys. The Borla sounds like a good idea. Where could I find one for the cheapest price? Any used ones?

yes that is the one! Not a bad price either, I think there is a Borla specialist on this forum that can get you a better deal, I'll try to find his u/n for you

edit: here is the PMs we went through when I was getting some information from him

Hi Derek,

Borla does not have a listing for the 328is, but I am almost certain it is the same muffler on the M3.

Part number is 14553.

List price: $681.99
Your price: $***.**

Depends on where you are, I may be able to offer you free shipping.

Harold
I looked up the part # for the 328i and it is the same as the M3 and the only difference between my car and the 328i is the suspension but I don't see that hurting the assembly. My car looks the same underneath as a normal 328i does. I live in Atlanta, Georgia. If I could get free shipping than that would be great! I don't have the money now but once I get paid from my second job I should have the money. I'm just trying to decide between getting either the Borla exhaust or the Rogue Engineering cat back system, which do you reccomend? Thank you so much for your help, Derek.
Hi Derek,

I can get you the RE exhaust as well. From having an E36 M3 in the past and both exhaust on the vehicle, I personally like the Borla much more, it is a much deeper sporty tone. The RE on the other hand is more raspy and almost sound like glass packs at times for some reason.

Your are all the way on the other end of the country, it will normally be around $** for the oversize shipping the Borla ehxuast requires. What I can do is to absorb **% of the shipping costs. Your shipping cost will be $**.**

Let me know when you are ready.

Harold

That is just wrong. Dead wrong.

You can buy name brand parts off eBay first off but many of the catbacks were made in an asian factory and then someone there stole the design and sell it directly through eBay. One for instance is UUC... you can buy as close to an exact UUC exhaust as it gets for ~300 bucks.

Or I think buy direct from UUC for 350-400 dollars.

Also I would skip borla. Just my opinion... If you want deep and rumbles... B&B or UUC FTW!

Is there a system that starts at the headers and works it way back?

Would replacing the whole exhaust be worth it?
