View Full Version : Any non-E46M3 M owners here?

As in M roadsters, E30 M3s, E36 M3s, or any M5? :eeps:

Just asking as, so far, the posts here have been all E46 M3-related.

If any non-E46 M3 M owners are lurking out there, SPEAK UP!

Other than I had no desire to post. And if a certain regular doesn't keep his (virtual) distance, I'm gone. I may love my car, but other things in life are much more important.

Glad you drove by, sir :thumb:

We can always count on our Admin to ensure that a certain "regular" keeps distance... ;)

That, and we're all far too nice here. :p

We need to get a little more gritty for TD to stay entertained.

So, speak up and get a set of balls, all you mealy-mouthed slack-jawed sycophants and clueless wishy washy ignoramuses!! :D

i'm always here.

the z3-coupe board, though, is still running quite strongly and none of them will migrate over to here, i think.

don't think there are many people here who would be into the m coupe (it IS ugly) anyway.

:o)

Actually, I really like the M-coupe as well. I hate the Z3 roadster and M roadster (too Bangled). But the M Coupe just look badass.

If I did not need a backseat and 4 doors... well, I'd at least consider it.

it's usually an acquired taste.

unfortunately (i know, i sound like a nancy boy right now), but the build quality is terrible.

it's hard to swallow after driving the well put together e46 my wife has.

(sigh).

i'd really like an e30m3.

Nah too big. Maybe one day once the price of a clean, low-mileage used one drops to ~$40-45K.

No, I'm happy with this-

TD, quit flogging me with that picture. That's exactly the color and year model that I hanker for.

Each day with Bangle pushes me closer to the brink of going back to my E36 or E30 roots. That pinhead is just killing me. He's turning the Roundel into the Roundhell.

Anyway, welcome back because I, too, missed you. I'm sorry you had to go through what you did. It looks like you definitely have the right perspective, and are stronger for the experience. Heaven help the rest of us now!:)

Ahh, screw you guys. :p

I think the Z3 is great looking. And the M coupe, while I disliked it at first, now also looks totally badass to me. I also love the '02 E46 sedan restyling.

While I can't say I like the E65 (yet?) I can say that it doesn't offend my sensibilities as much as it did at first.

When I picked up my 330i at Cutter, Jon and I had a brief conversation about these issues... he made some very salient points with regard to natural human psychology, and habituation. When the E46 first came out, many people thought it was an abomination, that it was ugly, that the E36 still looked plenty modern, etc.

But now, as great a car as it is, the E36 looks undeniably boxy and dated. It would surprise me quite a bit if the same pattern doesn't manifest itself with the 7ers over the next few years.

I've already moved on to that phase with the 7. Seeing them side by side, the E38 looks dull and dated...

You can get used to nearly anything. After long enough in the barn, you don't even notice the smell of chicken sh!t anymore.

Doesn't mean it's good.

I sat in an M coupe at the dealer the other night. Nice; brutal. Too many compromises for me to consider, but quite a car, nonetheless.

It's not big once you get used to it. Driven one before?

If the stars line up properly, I may have that one in 4 or 5 years :p

Take a look at the cover of the March edition of Roundel. There is a picture of a gorgous E38 with a great writeup on it inside.

The E65 will never have that type of style and class. It's a **** compared to the E38, and it's pimp is Bangle.

No offense, but coming from someone with a 2002 E46 sedan, I cannot give much weight to your opinions on what looks good.

I was one of those who did not like the E46 when it came out. And, truth be told, I STILL think that the E36 is a better looking car. It certainly looks more like a BMW.

And JST is right. I spent a few days on my wife's uncle's dairy farm last summer and after a day or so you really do stop noticing the smell. That is untill you get home and unpack your dirty clothes.

The E65 will always stink.

Hey Justin, any pics yet?

BTW, Steve emailed me the other day to tell me he finally sold his M3/4. (Sniff...)

Also, I STRONGLY recommend adding the X-brace to your M3. Let me know if you want install pics. It was VERY easy and it makes a HUGE difference.

Read about it here- http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_techtip/techtips/e36_xbrace.htm

It's been a long while since Human physiology course, but the olfactory sensors do literally desensitize. That's why some people leave a cologne/perfume trail around them as if they have been showering in it. They can't smell it unless it's overpowering (because their smell sensors have acclimatized to it) and it blows everyone else away. P--You! Same thing with the pig smells or any other smells.

My visual ugly sensors must be acclimatizing in a similar way. The original revulsion is gone when I see an E65 now... it's more boring than ugly (acclimatization effect).

I agree with Plaz 330I, although it was love at first sight regarding the M Coupe. I remember that people in general criticzed the E46 because it looked like a “baby 5 series” and it lost its’ individualism. Well, people in general have been buying them as fast as BMW makes them so I suppose they got use to the looks and they like it a lot (to quote Loyd).

"nate328Ci

I agree with nate328Ci as well.

Although, I must admit that JST has a point when he says
"You can get used to nearly anything. After long enough in the barn, you don't even notice the smell of chicken sh!t anymore. "

I don't thinks that's the case here.

What’s my point? I feel BMW will be fine even if they produce some cars that some individuals don’t like. As long as one still appreciates the qualities that make a BMW a driver’s car, they will find at least one or two models in the BMW lineup to satisfy them.

I live off of camino tassajara and lawrence rd about a 1/2mi down from blackhawk museum. funny thing cause I used to live in santa clara :)

Not too many local drives in this area. but you're pretty close to highway 9. just take Saratoga south and you will hit 9. once you get there you'll know you're there. You can take that all the way to santa cruz or bail out around los gatos and take 17 back if you're short on time. that's my favorite drive. The first half of the drive is mostly faster sweepers then after the stop sign you have bit of a straight then within 3 miles you get some tight switch backs. but be careful, last weekend I counted 6 chp plus 2 rangers. after that we slowed down significantly (we were in my friends new E46 M3).

If you really have time you can try highway 1 north of SF to stinson beach. it's a really tight road, most turns are probably 25 or 30mph and it get crowded.

I'm with you. E36 much better then E46. I didn't like the E46 when it first came out and I don't like the redesign either. in fact the redesign made it look worse.

my 2 cents.

i went out to hwy9 the night i picked up my car! it was tough keeping it under the 5500 rpm limit for breakin....

you ever drive highland road?? my best friends dad is a hardcore road biker and found out about it through a cycling club---country roads with fun turns and no cops! you have to watch out for cyclists on the weekends though....it starts of tassajara and ends in livermore...we used to go drive it every weekend (his dad has a few "weekend" cars, one italian :D) and always enjoyed it----

a lot of nice cars out in danville....but none as sweet as that dakar m.....its as i say....reDORKulous!!

yep my old buddy, I've known him since highschool days.

He lucked out after being on the wait list for 1 year, he was able to grab one of the gift cars, literally within minutes later someone walked in wanting to buy the car :)
