View Full Version : blower motor problem

I have a 1995 BMW 525i and when I turn on the ac or the heat the blower works sometimes but on occasion it will not work for some time. No air wil blow at all, and after turning it on and off it will eventually work. I changed the blower motor resistor and cabin filter about 5 years ago. Could this be the problem again or maybe something else.

Check the switch. If it works test the motor function using jumper wires directly at the motor.

This can also be related to the Final stage unit blower motor resister (The SWORD). The speed of the fan blower is controlled through two types of setups on the BMW E34: the final stage unit (older E34s) also called "the sword" because of its look ($140) or the blower series resistance ($30).
***8226; Fan blower not working on position 1,2 or 3,
***8226; Fan blowing in full blast whatever the position of the knob.

Pretty sure the 95 doesnt have the sword. I think 91 and older has the blower series resistance relay deal. My 91 does not have the sword.

I need one of these and it's priced at $800.00 bucks from BMW in Canada here. Is there a safe website I can buy the sword for the 140.00 price?

I had same problem weak air flow. changed the cabin filter that worked for about two weeks then nothing. I changed the final resistor and nothing. Took it into the shop ready to shell out my customary $500 for any repair(assumed the blower motor was bad). The mechanic called me up and said it would only cost me $90 it was the fuse.
