: Help with Vacuum Control Valve

11-18-2008, 07:09 AM
My 1992 e34 has a vacuum control valve between the valve head and the intake manifold. It sits below the fuel rail. I am concerned that it is not performing as it should and is allowing to much vacuum or too little. Can someone give me advice on this part. It is mechanical, not electrical like some e34s.

I am also finding it difficult to find a replacement for this part on line.

Before I get flamed I've been checking the web for this info but have turned up empty.

What model do you have?

It`s a 1992 e34 m30 motor 535i

I pulled the part yesterday and it has a diaphram that moves back in forth depending on vacum.

Everyone keeps telling me to check my ICV ... I don't think I have one on this motor and need to verify that with someone.

Can you point out the part in one of the diagrams?

It`s part #14

Does my car have an idle control valve?

If I understand it correctly the AFM can cause problems with the idle.

Realoem shows an ICV for your car (part 17).
It looks like the part you pointed out might be in the same place as the ICV. You might be able to get more info out of realoem if you use your vin to look your car up.

Thanks for the input. I checked out that adjustment page for AFM, I have a spare AFM that I'm going to try out and mess with. My VIN # reveals the same page that I provided for the part. I really don't think I have a ICV on this motor.
