Interesting... But geeze those motors are going to be HUGE. A 5.5l V8 in a C-class?? Too bad its specific output (<70bhp/L) is rather poor.

My thoughts exactly. C55 is going to be one nose-heavy car :yikes: I guess rumors of V8 M3 and existing V8 S4 leave MB with no other choice :dunno:
How many gears is enough?
7-speed?
Do I hear 8?

Just one...CVT
Course you may have trouble making it work with 367 HP.

exactly, even Audi is getting 360hp out of 4.2l V8 for the new S4.
Better be a boatload of torque with that displacement:)

if they had more lightweight componentry, they could get a lot more bang out of their v8s.
Big V8:  (though, in truth, even the biggest of these engines is a small block by American standards)
Lack of a manual transmission: :thumbdwn:
No stick, no sale.
I saw that a few weeks ago, very cool

344 bhp (DIN) in Germany, to be exact, one more than the M3's 343 bhp (DIN) - which was completely deliberate. Really.
The car isn't any quicker in a straight line or around a bone fide track than an E36 M3 (the 321 bhp version), mainly because of its enormous kerb weight. It is, though, very good at putting power down - the tables would probably be turned in the wet. If you hadn't already fallen asleep at the Audi's wheel.

Small car / V8 doesn't necessarily have to mean nose-heavy handling - my B8 weighs only about 1550kg and the only real understeer seems to be caused by the ASC...
Funny thing about the S4 is that it doesn't seem to have much outright torque - nothing close to the Alpina engine with its 347lb/ft.

What can I say, BMW/Alpina do things that few others can :D
