so i have a 92 325i with a M50B25 engine but it has 250K+ miles on it. but i also have a 93 325i parts car with a M50TUB25 engine in it with only 150 thousand miles on it. I'd like to put that one into my 92 but i don't like the idea of having Vanos.
This is what i found researching today about the two engines
"non Vanos cams are :
INTAKE 240 degrees, 9.7mm lift
EXHAUST 240 degrees, 9.0mm lift
Vanos 2.5L cams are (I think):
INTAKE 228 degrees, I forgot how much lift, but not more that 9.7mm
EXHAUST 228 degrees, 8.9mm lift"
also the M50B25 head has 1mm thicker valve stems, dual valve springs
(not single ones like the VaNoS head), and the block has bigger and stronger connecting rods.
now will it bolt up to the M50TU block? i don't see why not TMS sells a head gasket that fits on both the pre 9/92 E36's along with post 9/92 E36's W/ Vanos. also fits a M52 and that's a 2.8 liter, same bore but slightly longer stroke then the M50
as you can see
"M50/M52 Head Gasket
Standard replacement head gasket for M50 and M52 engines. Fits 1992-1995 325i/is & 525i, 1996-1999 328i/is & 323is (E36), 1997-1998 528i (E39) and Z3 2.8.
Applications: 1992-1998 325i, 325is, 328i, 328is, 323is, (E36 E34 E39 Z3)
Part #: 11121726617 (11 12 1 726 617)"
but i have never seen any of these engines taken apart so i have no hands on or eyes on experience and not 100% sure if these components will fit with little modifications..
comments please
