I am wondering why you would go to the dealer for service if your car is out of the warranty/free service period? Of course, if there were no qualified independent service centers in your area then you have no choice. But is the higher cost ever worth it?

Your right why go to the dealer, find yourself a good Indy with a good reputation and you are golden. I would only go to the Dealer as a last resort and even then I would think twice. When I was about to do my Inspection II the Dealer quoted me $1600 dollars, I found a good qualified Indy and had it done for around $900 and that included the brakes!

If you could DIY you save a lot $$$$$$$$. If not find a good Indy shop...

After the warranty runs out a good BMW indy shop is the way to go. Obviously exceptions as to recall or previously dealer fixed problems of course.
