545 km later, I am comfortably ensconced in my room at the Palace Hotel in Portorož.
Temperatures ranged from 3° to -2.5° but once I got within 75 km of Portorož, it rose to a nice toasty 7.5°.
The car was terrific to drive (more on that later).
Below: parking spot at Kempinski Airport Hotel, München.

It was too dark to take any Fotos after 16 Uhr 30 or so and I arrived at 18 Uhr. No snow for the last 75 km. :)

Glad you arrived safely! How was the Benzin-Verbrauch of your car?
Kempinski Portoroz looks great. Do you like it? Are the rates decent?

Except for the beginning and the end, yes.
At the beginning, I got directly onto the A92.
At the end, the car directed me down this tiny street and I wasn´t really sure the car was going to fit. The entrance is also not on the main street but in the back. Google maps and the 730d both stop at the wrong place. :dunno:

Nice room for an inexpensive country. I really like your snow pics. I have a D90 too, and I don't think it will allow you to take a bad picture.

Oh, if you shake the camera during the exposure, you will get a bad one
But it is a super camera. Amazing how far technology has come, contrasting today´s offerings to state-of-the-art when I wrote about the history of digital and electronic cameras in my History of Photography book (the book came out in 2001).

Ja, that´s the page I´ve been using since no one else seems to have weather for Portorož.
The 7 Grad was after dark so I am guessing it was warmer earlier today as well.

Can we have more on that sooner, please? :)

I´ve been busy driving  but Alfred G. wrote a great review (http://www.7-forum.com/forum/40/probefahrt-730d-f01-sehr-nett-103655.htm).

Link doesn't work for me - all I get is a neurotic web server that became very depressed when it couldn't find my link. Kept going on and on and on... :)
Edit: Nevermind, I was able to find it on that forum... thanks!
Enough about the car, hotel and weather...how are the food and wine in Istria? :D Also, did you need to purchase a Slovenian vignette?

Dinner at the Fleur del Sol in the hotel was great. Risotto with duck and pumpkin.
And yes, I purchased the Vignette.

Thank you.
So you liked it, but didn't think it was a huge step forward over the E65 except in the Nav/entertainment area, correct? (and a better interior?)
You also mentioned improvements relative to 730d-E65-VFL and 730d-FL - are those 2 older generations of the single turbo 3L diesel?

Btw, what does a liter of diesel currently cost in Slovenia?

I will find out tomorrow. Haven´t had to purchase any fuel yet :)
(I´ve gone over 800 km on the tank and the car tells me I have 125 km left)

Ok. An Austrian friend of mine is always laughing at me for what we (FIN) pay for fuel, and he goes to Slovenia to buy diesel for his E38 740d all the time. However, I have actually never asked him what he is paying per liter (don't want to know!).
800km so far on the tank is damn frugal! I guess that the F01 has a larger fuel tank than what I have in the E61?
I have done 640km on my current tank of diesel, and have another 120km or so left. And I thought that I was doing well! Time for me to stop using all of those 500 Newton meters of torque every time the light turns green. :D

Respekt! Dein Deutsch ist sehr gut!
I think the 3-Liter-Diesel-Engine is basically still the same than it was in the E65, isn't it?
I had a 2004 E65 730d Diesel once. I didn't like the sound, but I liked the low fuel-consumption (1100 km range once after filling up the tank).

How did you like the drive on the A1 in Slovenia out of Ljubljana? On my 2007 ED I was passed by several Rolls, Bentleys, Porsches doing well over 250kph.

The drive was good - I rarely got to go over 200 km/h because of traffic or snow or 100 km/h tunnels.
On the Autobahn in Slowenien I mostly saw very small, underpowered cars. Did not see anything as interesting as what you saw.

Diesel in Slovenia was 91 cents a liter on 2nd December, probably less now.
