Brand new 330cic with strange black marks in the paint on the hood and front bumper (looks like undercoating but it is under the clearcoat). They couldn't wipe them off, buff them out, or claybar them out.

Saw dealer yesterday and he says that when BMW area rep comes they will decide what to do about it. I assume the hood/bumper will need to be repainted

Since it is a new color (mystic blue) do I need to be concerned about matching?

Here's the deal Steve....
I don't think the new paint code is a concern. What you need to be concern is who is doing the paint job. It is important to have a BMW authorized shop ( and there are only a handful in this country) like these guys Spectrum Collision (http://www.spectrumcollision.com/) No, they aren't cheap!! But I understand that they can get the same paint "mixture" code of your car from the batch of the paint your car, when it was painted (by your VIN).

I also understand that the BMW VPC has the same set up. Either way, to make the new paint to blend in perfectly (and I know you just got your car Steve) it is always best to paint the area around the "hood" to let the color "blend" in better. Of course the problem is that your new car will be repainted and frankly, it would bother me.:tsk:

hope this helps Steve, and good luck

I wouldn't want my car repainted either without getting $ from the BMW dealer or BMWNA first. The reason being that when you go to trade it in, they are going to test the paint and know that the hood and possibly other areas were repainted and they are going to penalize you on the amount they are willing to give you on the trade-in. Believe me, I found out the hard way with the Mercedes I traded in for the 330cic. The MB dealer I bought it on never 'fessed up to the fact that the hood had been repainted after delivery to the dealer...wonder why? It was a crappy car anyway!

Bottom line, if they are going to pay for the repainting also get like $1500 or $2000 for the hit you are going to take when you trade in the car. Just my advice.
