Hi, new bmw owner here - 2006 330i with sport .

I was about to DYI change over to some winters wheels I picked up ... and noticed that 1 of the 5 lug nuts is different from the other 4 ... it seems circular with mutiple internal ratcheting ... ALL 4 wheels have this odd lug nut ...

Is this odd lug some sort of locking nut ?

Is there a standard supplied tool/part this is used with the odd nut ??

Does this mean I won't be able to take the wheel off with what I have ??

FYI - I just bought a jack and 1/2 inch drive torque wrench with a 17mm lug attachment.

Thanks all,

js.

you are looking at a 'keyed' lug nut. Just something stupid to keep the simple minded theives from stealing your wheels/tires. You should have a key for them that will slide over the lugnut to remove them. Look in your service jack compartment in your car and there hopefully should be the key....

Just be careful with the keyed lugnuts. I had one set on my Z3 that I had difficulty with. The hardened key broke in a spot - looks like a harening defect. I got it off but I don't think I will use them again. It may have been damaged at a tire place or just been a faulty part.

I used to keep my key with the lug wrench.
