Hey Gary

Thanks for suggesting the Michelin X-ICE XI2's for my 06 E65. The other day we had about 4" of snow along with some ice underlayment and driving through it was never a problem. No more does the ABS kick in when I stop or the DTC kick in when pulling away.

I know that I still need to drive carefully but at least I have some reassurance that the tires are working for me instead against me.

Hey, I have two questions:

1. I have 235/55R17's installed what tire pressure should I be maintaining?

2. Do my 17x7.5 Silver Painted Sport Edition A7 wheels fit any other BMW model? Maybe an E90 non-sport?

Thanks again.

1. I'd run these at 30-32psi up front and 33-35psi rear

2. These wheels fit a variety of other BMW models. With the right tire size it will fit an E90.

Gary -- how does the X-Ice compare to the Pilot Alpin?

The XIce has much better snow and ice traction, while the Pilot Alpin has faster steering response and better dry grip/handling.

Thanks. So for an area (DC) where it snows only a few times a year, probably the Alpin is better, whereas the Xice is for places where there's often snow on the streets?

I've noticed two main attitudes/thought processes regarding this decision. One is that most of the time you'll be driving on dry or well plowed roads, so you should lean towards one of the H/V rated performance snow tires. The other thought is that driving on dry roads is pretty easy even with a more aggressive snow tire (not as fun...) but that tire will deliver maximum traction and safety when you need it most as snow conditions can be challenging.
