I need to replace my Rear wheel bearings. I know the Bmw special tool can be had for about $250 but Im trying to bypass that if all posisble. ANyone whos done this job before without the special tools i need your help here. I work in a shop and have a press so i was considering just taking the enitre trailing arm off the car and using the hydraulic press. any thoughts/ideas Thanks

Yes, taking your trailing arm off and pressing the bearing off and on using a press makes the job so much easier. Also, I know there is a DIY on the web somewhere, I believe it's on bimmerforums. Just google it and i'm sure it'll show up. GL

Yeah i found a link somewhere that someone had used basic tools and a dremel tool or something but they didnt have any pics. I have no idea whats invloved in taking off the trailing arm, if thats not that invloved then ill just do it that way.

ok so after doing a little research and looking thru a few different repair manuals, it looks to me as you can get by without the special tools up to the point where you need to press the actual hub back into the inner race and the haynes manual says that u can use a long bolt with some washers and nuts to press it back in? I also know that ill likely run into a problem with getting everything apart, i.e the axle prolly wont wanna come out and the hub will likely be a pita too- they usually are ..but any ideas?
