View Full Version : What Is a Reasonable Discount?

Times are tough, and most automakers are offering significant incentives for both 08 and 09 models.

I am not aware of any specific BMW factory incentives to dealers (like the premium package deal that they were running earlier this year).

So, with that in mind, what is a reasonable discount to MSRP that one should expect on a new (order, not on the lot) '09?

Is BMW offering any specific price concessions, that the dealers know about but the consumer does not?

I'm planning on purchasing a loaded 335xi with MSRP of $52,900.

I might choose to pick it up ED, which would reduce the effective price to $49,885.

What sort of discount would one expect?

Read the stickies and search. You should be able to get a good bit more than that off on an ED. I don't remember the exact amounts since I haven't priced one in a while, but if you gave the dealer $500-1k over ED invoice price, you'd probably have about $6-7k off on the whole car.

Nope... ED only saves 7% on vehicle base.... so $42,000 gets reduced by $2940. Youre suggesting that $500-$1000 below MSRP is the right discount? I'm sure they can do more in this environment. The delta between MSRP and wholesale is still ~$4k with options.

Forget about talking discount from MSRP. Find out the correct ED invoice price and then you should be able to get it with 1k or less above invoice.
MSRP is only needed to calculate your lease payment. And if you lease make sure to negotiate the markups on the lease as well (preferable to 0).

Read what I said again. Look at the stickies with the invoice pricing. Add up your cost on ED invoice price, add $500-1000 (fair dealer profit), and that is what you should be paying. I would also personally insist on the base rate money factor and base acquisition fee ($725) if you are leasing. Dealers will ALWAYS mark these up for extra profit if you are not aware of them. I feel like being a nice guy this morning, so if you want to post your options, I'll even break it all down for you.

OP should simply go to the ED wiki in the ED forum.

Heck, let's make it even easier... just contact Jim at Delon BMW in Salem, OR.

It's no longer DeLon BMW anymore, and they simply aren't the best dealer in the NW :).

Although I'm slightly biased. :)
