I just called a local dealer, BMW Northwest, to find out what they would give me on their last M3 sedan, 2008. He said the MF would be .00075, with a MSRP of 67145 and a CAP cost of 65000. This seems ridiculous. I told him that the MF should be more around .00025 and he said, no that's not right at all. How do I negotiate lower? i'm going to call a different dealer, but I need to be better at negotiating these things. Thanks for any help!

Well, if the base rate is 25 AND he marks up by 35 (out of a possible 40) AND assumes you won't be putting a security deposit to get the 15 reduction, it DOES add up to 75. The cap cost is a bit out of touch with the market though unless this guy is the only dealer in a 500 mile radius or something...

I've seen two "online specials" showing $7,000 off MSRP...

Just stick to your guns, if they want the sale, they'll meet your terms.

All of the dealers around here (Seattle area) are pains to negotiate with...here is another dealer's deal, it's better but still sucks:

down 2290
msrp 69670
invoice 64570
cap cost 65670 (Said invoice is their pricing so they won't go below this)

36 month 12k miles a year
MF .00065 (Max markup, said they won't negotiate it)

Payment = 872 + tax = 953

I can't even negotiate with them, they don't want to hear it.

^ then you'll either have to pay it, if you want it, seek out other dealerships, or leave them your number and tell them when they get to the end of the month and still have the car, to give you a call. If you don't already have one, you'll then consider purchasing it on YOUR terms...

Do you have a trade with negative equity?

I was quoted $7,000 off MSRP on one the other day, $664 without tax, $714 with TN tax. This was without my trade, which I do have some negative equity in...

I do have a trade with negative equity. We hadn't even discussed that yet.

Here are the numbers from Delon BMW in Oregon, they are much better.

down 1846.61
msrp 64,675
invoice
cap cost 60,615

36 month 12k miles a year
MF .00045

876.61 a month payment...although I run this through my spreadsheet and I get different numbers? I dunno. Also, the monthly payment here was with a MF of .00065 and they agreed to drop to .00045. Let me know what you think.

Remember the lease acquisition fee, base $725 which can be marked up to a maximum of $925. They usually just add it to the cap cost. Could be why your numbers differ. To me the deal sounds OK. The money factor saves you a bunch on interest. The dealer is making a small amount of money which I think is fine.

I got the first dealer to match that MF and give me the car for invoice, which I think is the best I'm going to do in the pacific northwest. Overall I think I'm happy...Probably will go pick up the car later this week.

You better lock that bad boy down before someone else does. I've noticed availability disappearing very quickly. :eeps:

I'm going in tomorrow morning so they can evaluate my trade-in and if it's a number I'm fine with I'll do the deal...I'll keep everyone posted!

I've noticed that too. There seem to be a few of M3 verts out there still, but coupes and sedans are vanishing. Especially the ones with desirable colors and options. The word has definitely gotten out, so to speak.

Where I work there are 6 new BMWs in the last 2-3 months, many of them a direct result of the year-end lease incentives on leftover '08s: 2 335 verts, 1 335 coupe, E90 M3, E92 M3, and my M5.

I have used both but most often I use an excel spreadsheet as it gives me the option to run several scenarios at the same time.
