View Full Version : Exhaust, mid pipe rattle?

I've noticed if I'm driving along and apply light throttle with relatively high load (think cruising along, come to a small hill, apply throttle to maintain speed, not enough to make the trans kick down but close) there is a pretty bad rattle that comes through the floor board from the drive shaft tunnel area. It sounds to me like the engine starts lugging a bit and the exhaust rattles like crazy.
If the car does kick down or I lift off the gas the noise goes away totally and it only happens in these situations.
I've also noticed it is extremely sensitive leaving from rest. You really have to be easy on the gas or it launches off the line fairly hard. This issue seems to be well documented though.
Does any one else have/had this rattle issue? It seems weird that an auto would let the engine lug enough to do this. Would a software update possibly fix the shift points and take off?
Thanks in advance.

This issue was addressed at my local BMW dealer. It ended up being a loose heat shield and under body panel that were rattling against the exhaust. This along with 4 pages of other minor fixes and the car is now perfect. Well maybe more like perfect for now judging by some posts on here. Either way we're happy.
Thanks for your help vatkens.
