I have a 1994 530i V8, wondering where the starter motor is?
Facing the car, is it frontish right passenger side? Kinda looks cylindrical. I have a heat soak issue so before buying a new one I'd like to try making a heat shield to see if it solves the problem.
Also if I were to fully enclose the motor would it cause a problem? I'm assuming it doesn't generate heat itself so doesn't need air to cool.

Found a pic there, if it's visible could someone highlight it for me? Thanks.

You may have to get underneath this vehicle and start to look around where the engine mates to the transmission for locating the starter.

Mike,
Get the car up on a set of ramps or a lift.
look up from the rear of the car towards the front of the vehicle while you are under it.
Approximately mid-ships you will see where the transmission(gearbox) meets the engine block (mostly you will see pan, oil pan etc.) and the exhaust piping.
now, right at this intersection you turn around again, (now you are facing rear of vehicle), and look up, you should see a cyclindrical object tucked up and attached to the bell housing, this would be the starter.....
hope that helps.....
