Hi everyone...lately when i'm driving and accidently hit a hole, my seven hits it HARD...makes this loud "bang" type noise, like theres no struts there at all! Its still under warranty, haven't taken it in yet....however I came across a set of struts on ebay for e65 and emailed the guy the vin, he replied back saying they wont fit because i have "EDC". I don't recall seing any options in I-Drive for "EDC" so i just checked again...nothing... Could he be mistaken?
Theres nothing in i-drive for me to control ride settings...i only see traction stuff in there!
In my wifes 330, whenever we hit a hole it makes a "thud" type sound...my 7 just doesnt sound right, i keep thinking i just cracked a wheel and blew a tire is how hard it sounds...
ANY INSIGHT WOULD BE HELPFUL!! -THANKS!!:dunno::dunno:

even if you had edc, they would only be on the rears if i remember correctly... are you referring to the front or rears?

on 7 series i models you dont have a option for rear self level suspension( EDC ), only the LI model has that option. so your 745 doesnt have EDC.
.kl;k
Electronic Damper Control (EDC) reduces variations in wheel load, ensures tyres have excellent traction and counteracts bodyshell movement regardless of the weight your automobile may be carrying - and regardless of the state of the road's surface. EDC can even help shorten braking distances, meaning you enjoy outstanding comfort along with the best in BMW on-road safety.
Sensitive sensors constantly monitor all factors influencing the vehicle's behaviour and occupants’ comfort, including road conditions, load changes and vehicle speed. In a fraction of a second, the signals are analysed by the EDC microprocessor and orders are sent to the actuators on the shock absorbers, which, with the help of magnetic valves, are variably adjusted to provide optimal suspension.
Thanks to Electronic Damper Control, the tendency for the nose to dip when braking is practically eliminated. The influence of potholes and unevenness on the road surface is reduced to minimum. Whether you're behind the wheel or relaxing in the rear of the cabin, EDC delivers a remarkably smooth and comfortable ride.

Hi Guys
I can only speak from knowing about the E38, but self levelling suspension and EDC are 2 different things. EDC acts upon all 4 wheels and basically varies the stiffness of the shock absorbers from Soft to Medium to Hard...
Self Levelling is just something that pumps up the back to stop it sagging when you have a full load in the boot or on the tow bar. This is only available on the LI models as Sunny stated...
I might be totally wrong here, but I am sure that you can have EDC without Self Levelling...

Are you guys saying that only LI models have self-leveling? Because my "2002 i" has rear-self leveling. Also i have an option on my idrive for EDC = Comfort or sport.

Its still under warranty, haven't taken it in yet..
If it's still under warranty, why are you even messing with it? Take it in and let them deal with it. :dunno:

I took it into them because the front suspension just doesnt feel right...they changed the lower control arms on both sides and said all is ok! IMO: for stock wheels / tires / suspension, the front end is not as solid as it should be....everything I go over is a "bang"...i believe the struts are shot...car came from Jersey and judging from the condition of the rims, the've had their share of potholes....even the dealer told me that the wheels needed to be replaced they're all bent....BUT they never mentioned anything about the struts!...im tired of dealing with dealers!
BTW...just to note, EVERYTIME the car goes to the dealer to fix something, it comes back with a new problem!...trying to stay away from that experience again...

I know what you mean, it usually takes a few tries to get them to fix anything thats not obviously broken or dangerous to driving... :tsk:
