Hi,

I'm new to bimmerfest and i all ready love this community i have read alot of help full things on here. Not long ago my car started to blow alot of white smoke from the tail pipe so i whent ahead and researched it on here and found that it was most likely a HEAD GASKET OR CYLINDER HEAD problem so i took it to my mechanic and he said it was the head gasket. I got a new head gasket and got it installed but then he found out that the cylinder head was cracked so i when on ebay and purchased a rebuild cylinder head both things where changed. However when i start the car i get white smoke for about a minute so i checked to see if it was anti freeze in the cylinders but no loss off anti freeze is occurring and the oil is fine the smoke smells normal. Please help i dont whant to have to do this all over again..
:dunno:

Could be residual "left-overs" from previous runnings with water in the exhaust and/or condensation build-up. How long have you driven it yet? If you have only run it for a few miles, you need to give it some more time and see if it all burns off.

You're in NY right? If this is happening when you first crank the car and it goes away after a couple of minutes, then I would think that it is likely just steam from condensation inside the exhaust system being heated up, especially since you just had the head and head gasket replaced. I get steam from my exhaust pipe initiall after cranking my car when it's cold, even down here in NC.

Isn't this the general time in a bimmer's life when things start to break down?...

have a qualified mechanic perform a compression test on the engine to know for sure.
