i have a late 96 740. The computer monitor does not work. There is a phone installed but no Nav. I have recently changed the battery but can not remember if the screen went blank staight away, durr. The radio, tape and CD all work. After messing will all the knobs I now get the "overspeed" alarm coming on and showing 4mph, the setting obviously having been set blindly while messing. I have checked fuses and all are ok, is there a fuse elsewhere?:

I do not have any ideas, but you might try this place that has some knowledgable NAV folks:

Nav & A/V Board (http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/bmwnav/)

Please don't keep posting new threads. Adding to your original "bumps" it to the top of the list.

Generally, self-bumping threads isn't welcome either. I still say check that other board if you can't find an answer here.

Could be several things. Off the bat I would say it is the fuse inside of the CD/NAV unit in your trunk. Take it to someone who can check/service it for you. The fuse is nearly the size of your pinky. I have not heard of the fuse partially going, it is usually working or not, period. If you had accidentally turned the monitor off, it should come back on when restarting the car, certainly after several start cycles, if only to give you basic access to functions. The screen has been known to freeze up, essentially the whole unit from time to time, that I have been told is an overload in the computer and more info than it can process at the moment. That usually glitches itself out, or you can disconnect the battery and the computers will reset. See what happens from there.
