One of the add-ons they tried to sell me in the finance office when I picked up my new 330ci yesterday was a tire/wheel protection plan. It was initially priced at $414 for the 36 months of my lease and they immediately dropped to $199 when I balked. I still didn't take the plan but was told I could get it within 7 days.

Though I did not see the specifics of the plan, I'm wondering about the value in general. Do these types of plans typically cover curb rash if I'm a fool and don't pay close enough attention? Also typically what happens to the tire portion of the coverage if I replace them before the lease is up?

In general...how's the value of these plans and is there something I can get on my own that might provide better protection for the money?

Thanks,
Cory

Things like extended warranty and road hazzard coverage are usually highly profitable products underwritten by some insurer that are unrelated to BMW at all... Like with ext warranty for example they make about $800 for printing out the form and mailing it in for you...

I'd imagine the coverage won't replace rims for you if you only got curb rash. They might repair them for you. If you destroy a rim by like hitting a pot hole at some pretty good speed, they might replace it. But the chances of that happening is kindda slim. It only cost about $150 to fix damages to rim like rashes and chips, per wheel. There is a good place in Dallas that does that. Also is there a deductible for claims?

Most tire warranties are pro-rated, which can be subjective. It pays to read the fine print. With the expensive run flat tires I would want a warranty that offered a full replacement in the event of a nail or other sidewall damage.
