i am looking at getting an 318. the trouble is that the person said the car stopped on the interstate due to battery trouble. stated put a new battery in. Now it wont start. they think it is a code. is there such a feature on these cars and if so how do you fix it.

No feature that will disallow the car from starting after a dead battery.

is there anything that would keep it from starting from what was stated.

Alternator. Some came with faulty Valeo brand alternators, but most just have OLD alternators that need replacing.

'stated' being the operative word here, i say don't assume anything. either take the battery that is in there out and have it checked, or put a correct battery in.
an alternator wouldn't stop a vehicle from cranking, or even starting. it will, however, kill a new battery if it is not charging properly.
oh, and when you put the battery in, make sure the connections are clean and free of corrosion. then let us know if it does anything when the key is turned. (cranks, buzzes, lights, and that sort of thing.)
