2008 X-3 Flashlight

My 2008 X-3 came with a flashlight that is supposed to charge while in its socket inside the glove box. Whoever detailed the car before delivery didn't install it in the socket, and it can fit lens-in or lens-out (it's cylindrical).

So, two questions:
1) which way should it slide into the socket
2) does it charge by induction? There are no contacts (my 2003 325i had a flashlight with contacts). Or maybe it just runs off a AA battery?

Any insights would be helpful because I am in the dark.

2008+ cylinder shaped flashlights are not rechargeable, that slot is just to hold it..still better than the previous lights

It is a very nice LED flashlight, but I was still disappointed to find the 'downgrade' from the former rechargeable model.

Thanks for the insights. At least now I won't be freaked when the "always recharging" flashlight runs out of juice just when i need it.
