Thanks to new U.S regulations regarding model name that includes the engine displacement in it that are effective starting in 2009 BMW had to revise the moniker of its X and Z vehicles. X5 4.8i will now be xDrive48i and Z4 3.0si will be sDrive30i. :yikes:

I don't understand. If that is true, why does the word "drive" need to be included? On another front, last I checked, the 335i and 535i are just 3.0 displacement engines not 3.5. :dunno:

What was wrong with Z4 3.0i and Z4 3.5ti?

The "drive" has been chosen by BMW. It certainly makes more sense than x48i. As for the 335i, yes it is the 3.0L engine but with the twin turbo so BMW calls it 335i to differentiate it with 330i which is the same engine but without the TT.

There was nothing wrong with Z4 3.0i. It's just that the regulations have changed. What can you do? :dunno:

The new car looks really nice, but I'm a bit put off by the increased weight and folding hardtop .....

Oh well .....

Awesome looking car.

From what planet did BMW derive the design for the automatic "shifter knob"?

I think the car looks spectacular, inside and out. Of course I'm relatively new to BMW-envy, but I've always liked the Z4 in both coupe and roadster forms and I think this new design has just the right amount of influence and practicality of both while enough of a redesigned exterior to make it look like an entirely new model.

I think space gray is the best color for this car, it accentuates the classic lines on the modern roadster

Can't get past the ugly grill and headlight treatment... Sorry, not for me. It looks VERY glitzy all around.

I think the new Z4 looks nice, just like other cars. The front end reminds me of the new Lincoln, the rear reminds me of the Mercedes and Lexus. BMW had lost its distinctivness that the old Z4 had, and even the Z3. So even though it looks nice, my personal vote is for the old styling. I will just keep my Old Z4. It does tend to bring quite a few favorable comments on the road. And it looks like a Z4, not like some other cars out there. My 2 cents.
