Does the new "retractable hard top" mean BMW will not produce a coupe version for the new Z4? Too early to know?

I doubt very much that we're going to see a hardtop fixed coupe. I was surprised that they tried it on the Z4. What I wonder about is does BMW or any Co. make money when they tool up a coupe like they did with the Z3? Such a short run they had to have lost money. I realize it's an investment just like any other that may or may not payoff but my hindsight on this is 20/20. One look and I knew that Z3 coupe would bomb.

Z3C bomb? Hardly, particularly the MZ3C ...

It didn't cost much at all on the Z3 which is why they did it

If that car hadn't bombed then there would have been a MGB/GT style Z4 from the start of production. When I say bombed I mean sales numbers, not the performance.

Either way, I for one will miss the current Z body style. Generally, I am not attached to my cars... the the Z4 has classic lines that I will absolutely miss. Anyone who has one of these cars should seriously think about keeping it for the long haul.

When you compare it to what?
The segment was essentially the ///MCoupe.
M cars are a niche segment to begin with.
Coupe more so.

So, apart from the name-calling, there is no consensus about whether there will be a Coupe edition of the new Z?

One of the floor guys at the Washington auto show said, very firmly, no new Z4 coupe.

There isn't one planned, so it won't happen for a long time, if at all. In addition, since the new Z has a retractable hardtop, the market for a coupe only version would seem to be quite limited.

Guys/Gals,

Let***8217;s keep this civil and on point. The original question was whether or not there will be a new Z Coupe. There is no need to bash Z3 or Z4 Coupes.

If there is any more of the back and forth that was going on before, it will be considered trolling and will result in a chill out/timeout/ban.
