I have a 6 year old boy. He's in a booster seat. I drive him almost every day. I am pretty set on getting a 328i sedan, but I really love the looks of the 328i coupe much better. Can anyone here comment on how functional the coupe is with a small child in a car seat getting in/out? If someone can convince me it makes sense and is still practical I'll get the coupe. Otherwise it looks like I'll get the less attractive, but more functional sedan.

How strong is your back---seriously. I got the Sedan b/c access to rear seats is so much easier than the Coupe (depsite how good the Coupe looks).

Take your 6 year old with you to the dealer and try it out...

Good Luck.

My back is fine, but I hear you. I think the practical side of me will force me to go with the sedan. I'd like to keep my back in good shape for a while.

Don't fear the sedan!

I think of mine as a guilty pleasure...it gets 30+mpg, seats four comfortably while hauling their luggage, handles like a sports car, and goes like stink.

What more could you ask for? Longer doors to make it harder to get in and out of in parking lots? No thanks!

So don't fret and get a four door!

Don't do it...

The sedan is easily the better option from an ease and practicality perspective.

I pick up two kids from school everyday so I have to open my door and pull up the seat which I HATE, even in inclement weather. But it SOOOO worth it.

I'm coming from a four door into my current coupe. Although I hate opening up my door and pulling up my seat to allow people in back, it is worth it aestetically to me. The sedan looks good but the coupe looks great.

Teach your son to do the seatbelt up himself and get in and out of the car without mangling things. Problem solved

My seven year-old grandson has absolutely no problems getting in and out (as a matter of fact he loves the seat movement button on the top of the seat so he can move the seat himself).

I drive a 328i Coupe with my 7yr old son in a booster & 4yr old daughter in a car seat. I had concerns when ordering my car, but I have had no regrets after taking delivery.

My son & daughter both buckle themselves, so all that I have to do is open the door and let them climb into the backseat. By the time I get settled in, we are ready to go... no problems whatsoever.

Go for the coupe if that is what you like better.

My friend sold his e46 coupe becasue of his baby. He had to actually get in the back to secure the baby seat. He grew to hate his car and unfortunately opted for an A4. To each his own, I concurr though, haveing 2 LESS doors just doesn't seem like a better option with kids. I have 2 teens.

I love my coupe, but it's not easy or convenient getting things or people in and out of the back seat.

My kid is 6 and I still check his booster seat to make sure the seat belt is fastened properly. I'm just extra cautions about that.

I'm going in to the dealership today or tomorrow to place my order. I just think the sedan makes more sense in my situation. Plus I drive my wife and son a lot so the extra leg room will help.

My younger child is 7 and she was able to make sure her seatbelt was fastened properly at 5. I still ask her if she's "buckled properly" (yes, those exact words) every time before taking off. I'm just extra cautious about that.

It sounds like you're looking for reasons to not get the coupe. How long do you plan on keeping the car? If it's a lease or only for a few years of ownership, get the sedan. If you're going to keep it for more than 5 years, get the coupe. By the time he's 10, you'll be glad you did.

One thing is how to get in and out right now. Other is how later few years from now. Not sure your situation but if you like me and chanage your car every 2-3 years you should be ok. If keep it longer it won't be to comfy for him and the family if you take the car all the time.

I had a 2 door car before, I found it tiresome and a nuisance having to pull the seat forward everytime anything or anyone had to get in thye back. Less space too IMHO

I'll be leasing for 3 years. So at lease end he'll be 9. Maybe I'll go for the coupe then.

Don't get the 328i sedan or coupe. Just get a 335i sedan instead. More exciting, faster, and more practical. With the sports package I think it looks better than the 328i coupe anyway. The 328i is a downgrade from an S60R.
