I've had my '07 335xi about 17 months and have been generally pleased with the CA option. Once in a while it would not lock on first touch, but otherwise was perfect. In recent months it seems to be getting worse. Now it sometimes won't unlock when grabbing the handle until a subsequent attempt. And often it won't start on the first attempt pushing the start button. Sometimes I'll see the key icon in the dash display complaining about no key. I tried replacing the battery, but no help.

Does anyone have experience with this and how to fix?

On a related note, I have an amusing story to tell about CA. Once I opened my trunk, put my bag in, and closed it, then went to open the driver's door and it was locked, and I despaired, realizing the key was in the bag in the trunk. Drat, I thought CA wasn't supposed to let this happen. I bummed a ride home from someone, got my other key, and came back. When I got in the driver's seat and started the car, I got a warning indicator that my trunk wasn't shut. Oh, man! It did work correctly and I could have accessed the trunk and gotten my key all along! :-)

Try replacing the battery in the fob.

Also check and see if the CA works better with the other fob.

Doubt it's the battery. I tried replacing mine and it made no difference. What I did notice was that I had more problems when my cell phone was right near the key in my pocket. And yeah, the trunk is supposed to pop back open if the key is locked inside it...but I wouldn't count on it working 100% of the time!

Mine is almost unusable post window tint.

Getting CA to work every single time:

Rule #1. CA fob and cell phone on different sides of body.
Rule #2. See Rule #1

I have the same problem on occasion, no pattern to my situations. My cell phone is always on the right pocket, fob on the left. I usually hit the unlock button anyways, but CA has disappointed me about 50% of the time I actually do use it.

I replaced my batteries about 2 years in. Sometimes it doesn't recognize me. I think it works better if you stand parallel to the car. Sometimes if I'm standing sideways and the key is in the far pocket it won't pick up.
