Clutch died recently, so took it into BMW dealership (don't know any good shops around my area, yet) and they charge $607 for replacement. Fine. Get a call the next morning with the serviceperson saying "Hope you're sitting down, because your flywheel is worn and is going to cost $1200 to replace" on top of the clutch.

Okay, so I know these costs come with the brand of this car, but $1200? I looked online for flywheels for my particular car (96 328is) and found one for about $300. When I told them this they said it's probably not a "stage 2 flywheel" and I looked on the net for the same thing and came up with nothing.

So since im seriously short on funds they sanded down the flywheel for me and it seems to work fine for now. Would I be getting ripped off or does anyone know if you can find a flywheel for my car for cheaper? I thought stage 2 was a performance part or something.

Another service guy said flywheels are quite expensive for my model, but he didn't know why. Heh :)
