How do you adjust the height of the wheel? Stupid question but I couldn't find anything that'd let me adjust it, lol

And what do all those buttons do?

Many thanks to the DIY files at 330ci.com!

Great instructions, and the whole thing took me about 1 hour. I did end up buying a torque wrench from Home Depot for $55, and will keep it for other uses. It was nice to hear the "click", I wanted to make sure the bolt was tight.

As for driving impressions, it was a nice day in Seattle, so I took it to the twisties for about an hour, and I did not want to stop! I never imagined that a simple steering wheel swap would change the driving experience like this. I would never ever go back to the stock sport wheel. Pictures really don't tell the whole story, you have to get behind the wheel and drive to tell the total transformation!

I'd highly recommend this upgrade to everyone.

On a side note, I think the wheel should be part of the Sport package.

Those are the standard buttons on the E46, so not unique to the M steering wheel. Left most is the volume, 2nd column upper two are radio track/seek/memories, 2nd column lower two are for phone (if equiped), and the right four buttons are for the cruise control.

E36s have fixed, non-adjustable steering columns.

Hi,

That looks great.

How much did the wheel cost and do you have the part number? Also is the airbag already in the new wheel?

Matthew

You can check this out for some additional info:

The wheel was $350 shipped from Circle BMW.

No, you have to use the airbag in the current wheel, it comes off pretty easily and snap right back after you put the M wheel in. The DIY instructions explain all the details.
