Hey guys,

I am very much enjoying my new 325i and I am getting ready to do some modifications on the lights and what not. Bu, before I do all this, I was wondering how I can get set up with the integrated phone. I currently have a Samsung phone through verizon wireless and would like to know what I have to do to get set up. Thanks!

If you mean the integrated BMW phone features with the steering wheel button and all the other features, you are probably out of luck at the moment. The newest BMW phone that works in the E46 is the CPT8000, a phone that BMW no longer sells. New E46s don't work with the new CPT9000. In order to use the integrated features, you'll need the BMW phone.

Bluetooth is another option. I don't know when it BMWNA will/did start putting it on the US spec E46-- I've already seen it in an E65. If you don't have it, another alternative is to wait for the Bluetooth retrofit kit, have it installed in your car, and then use a Bluetooth phone in the car.

Bu, before I do all this, I was wondering how I can get set up with the integrated phone. I currently have a Samsung phone through verizon wireless and would like to know what I have to do to get set up. Unfortunately, you can't get a new system from BMW at this time, due to a major oversight on their part. They're apparently too embarassed to even talk about this in Owner's Circle - multiple requests for info have gone unanswered.

There was a phone kit called the CPT8000. There were 3 major parts to it - phone, cradle/eject box, and controller and harness in the trunk. The phone is completely unavailable from BMW. At the end of May there were a total of 4 controller/harness kits in the BMWNA stockroom for all of the US. The eject box and cradle parts should still be orderable as individual spare parts, though some colors may be unavailable. You might be able to get some of the parts on eBay, though a majority of the sellers have mis-labeled phones (phone listed for Verizon when it is really Sprint PCS, for example).

BMW has 2 plans for new phones, neither of which is available yet. The first is the V60i phone, repackaged as the CPT9000. The bmwwireless website says this will be available on cars other than the 7er "sometime". The other option is Bluetooth, which isn't available in the US yet. And Verizon currently doesn't offer any Bluetooth phones. From information I've read, the US Bluetooth kit (when it becomes available) will not offer cradles, so you won't be able to charge the phone or use an external antenna. The only benefit will be the integration into the audio system and radio display.

Like everyone said, the integrated phone at this time will be a very tough if not impossible solution to execute. However, FYI: I just got a Motorola V60 via Cingular and installed it using the Motorola hard-wired hands free kit into my 95 325Ic. It works great, has voice dialing and I wired it to mute my radio. Probably not as good as the BMW integration, but it's pretty close: I just hit one button on the phone, say a name, the phone automatically mutes the radio and dials the number.

I have not installed it yet on my 00 323i but it should be easy (don't yet know where/what the car's phone mute lead is.)

Does the phone say BMW on the back? Thats what made me want the phone so bad. It will match my lighter and my car!

Yes. However, is it worth the very high price just because of that? It is basically a fancy Motorola v60 that sells for well over $500 (don't remember the exact price, but I know that the previous CPT8000 was well north of this figure, so this is just a guess).

Come on! Anything with BMW on it must be worth the money! Thats why the :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:s put BMW logos on their cars. It obviously increases the value but 100%

Siemens has a phone that is bluetooth, just getting to the states. It is called the S56 and it has a whole host of great features (bluetooth, color screen, speaker phone) in a nice small package. I talked to a buddy of mine that hasa Cingular store and he told me I had to wait until Sept. or Oct. :(
