Hello Guys,

I just intalled Apexcone HID's and tail lights; they all work fine, but know I have a message in my console computer that says "low beam failure" + "tail light failure".
Again, everything works fine, except for that message.
I have a 1996 328i.

Any input?

This is what I installed:
- Z Type DEPO Euro Ellipsoids
- DDM HID, 55w, H1, 6000K
- Tail Lamp, BMW, Smoked

Thanks!

low beam failure... get used to it. mine does it all the time as soon as I turn my lights on, even though they both are working. as for the taillight I am not sure

low beam failure == DDM HID, 55w, H1, 6000K, Z Type DEPO Euro Ellipsoids

tail light failure == Tail Lamp, BMW, Smoked.

Yeah, if you had searched you would know that HIDs will trigger LBFs. There are fixes for it, or you can deal with it. All HIDs will do this because of the ballasts.

The tail light failure, are they LED taillights or incandescent? If it's incandescent, get a hold of DDM for that. They should fix that, no reason to have one. Just make sure all your taillights (and the 3rd CHMSL) are ok. If they're the LEDs, you'll need a resistor to confuse the circuit. It's based on resistance, when a light bulb goes out the circuit has less resistance. So, since LEDs offer much less resistance, it thinks a light's out.

Chad, i have had Mc Cullogh, Phillips and Xtec so far. Installed them my self but none of them ever tripped the computer. :roundel:

HID ballasts are not the only thing that trips it. It's not related to digital, analog, 35W or 50W. it's not related to brands or anything that is easily identified or consistently the fault item.

Some LCMs (mine on my old E36 M3) would not trip on any HID kit, until one day when a bulb blew. From that day forward, it always triggered the HID.

We carry error correcting HID ballasts, 9 out of 10 local installs have not had any errors (rough estimate) - all the BOSCH and ZKW local installs no errors, but one DEPO gave an error.
It's tough to say if:
1) it's the ballasts or the bulbs offering lower than expected resistance.
2) could be the wiring of the lights having too little resistance
3) Could be your LCM is failing and halogen bulbs didn't show this as much as HID
4) Your fuses may be able to remove the code - go from 7.5 to 10 or 15.

If you are interested in trying our HID ballasts to see if that solves it, please contact us.

Changing fuse values will not make a scrap of difference to lamp failure indicators. Unless the fuses are blown, and they are not.

Except that in the real world - regardless of the theoretical - it has worked.
Whether because an old fuse was corroded or it conducted poorly, or whatever.

In theory the resistance of a larger fuse may give enough ohms to confuse the on board computer in thinking you have the old stock headlights. The original 9006 bulbs have a resistance value of 3.5 ohms. If the ballast does not send that ohm rating back to the computer then you get a failed indication. This may also happen when you replace any lights with LEDs. We saw this on a 1992 E36.

Do I just replace the fuses with higher rate ones?
Any suggestion as to what rate to use?

Thanks.

No, do not do that under any circumstance.
Lets not blow things up.

Besides umnitza, which brands do you guys recommend for HIDs then? Planning on getting them and new headlights pretty soon, so whats the preferred brand, since there seems to be some brand wars going on. Also, on a related subject, I want angel eyes. I was thinking to just get new headlights with angel eyes and projectors, but is it more cost and time efficient to just get the angel eyes separately? Trusting ya'll here so steer me in the right direction please :D

I recommend Xtec for H.I.D
Helix for Angel eyes.
And DEPO or ZKW projectors.
Buy everything seperately.

Here, I bought two pairs from him, both H1 and could not be any happier. This is my secondtime Xtec purchase.
He has H1 bulb type, just email him and he will list it for you. He also has 6000K.

That one says only for headlights already equipped with halos. Am I being blonde, but I'm not sure my lights are? Gonna go look. Don't think I'm being blonde. :dunno:

A craftsman, you are.
The micro thin approach will not be for everyone though. Once removed from their tough polycarbonate refractors, these glass rings are very easy to break.
